Throwing light to my college life

The night before my college orientation at VIT Chennai, I lay on my bed, eyes wide open, as a whirlwind of thoughts danced through my mind, painting vivid images of what college life would be like. I knew I wasn't alone in this sleepless excitement—thousands of students, just like me, were caught in their own web of imaginations. But here's the thing: while most were probably fretting about future placements or wondering about the romantic escapades they'd experience, my thoughts wandered elsewhere, to something I believed was far more crucial—fun.

You see, I didn’t just attend school; I survived a place that felt more like a prison. The rigid rules, the suffocating discipline—it drained the fun out of everything. So, when I imagined my college life, all I could think about was: "Will I have fun at VIT?"

Now, fast forward two months into my journey at VIT, and the answer to that burning question? It's...complicated. Let's just say, the reality has been a mixed bag. For starters, every day I embark on a 4-5 hour journey to and from campus for just 3 hours of classes. If that isn't the epitome of student-life irony, I don’t know what is!

I also thought I’d be immersed in a cultural melting pot, surrounded by students speaking a medley of languages, soaking in diversity. But to my surprise, my class is made up entirely of Tamil speakers. And you know what? I love it! It’s like an immersive language course, and honestly, it's great for the first year.

Another misconception I had? "Look good on the first day; first impressions last forever," they say. Well, that quickly flew out the window when I realized VIT is a sprawling campus where walking miles from one block to another is a daily workout. Let's just say, staying fashionable while sprinting between classes is an impossible feat.

Ah, and weekends! I was naive enough to think Saturdays and Sundays would be my downtime. Imagine my shock when I discovered that not only do we have classes on weekends, but sometimes, even exams! Traumatizing, to say the least.

Then there are the clubs and forums. I had grand plans to immerse myself in all sorts of activities. But with the endless hours spent commuting and the deluge of assignments and records to write, I’ve barely scratched the surface of extracurricular life.

But for every challenge, VIT has also given me moments that make up for it. Onam celebrations, Pre-technoVIT events, Voice-it competitions, movie promotions, workshops, hackathons—the energy on campus is electric. And with exciting upcoming events like TechnoVIT and Vibrance on the horizon, there's no shortage of things to look forward to.

Funny enough, while I initially expected my inbox to be flooded with reminders about assignments, exams, and grades, VIT has instead been sending me a constant stream of emails about events, clubs, and activities happening all around me. It’s a reminder that life here is about more than just academics—there’s a vibrant world of opportunities beyond the classroom.

So, my answer to the question I had that sleepless night? It’s not black and white. It’s all about management. It’s all about balancing priorities. Initially, I thought I should focus solely on academics, but

then I shifted to wanting to dive into extracurriculars. But now, I realize VIT isn’t about choosing between the two—it’s about mastering the art of juggling both. That’s why VIT is more than a place to learn—it’s a place to grow.

And if you ask me, that’s the kind of fun I was really looking for...

"My wall is full now after I decorated it with pictures and newspaper articles of my dear champions. Now I can call it 'The Hall of Fame,'" giggled India with a lightly tinted blush, her eyes shimmering with joy and nostalgia. She looked at the wall, each frame a story of grit, perseverance, and glory, and sighed, "Oh, how my children shine on the world stage!" As she sat down beside the big Christmas tree, its stars and bells twinkling like the achievements she held dear, she replayed all the winning moments that filled her heart with pride. Every victory brought tears of happiness to her eyes, like a mother watching her children reach for the stars. The Life Of Pi : Life After A Shipwreck

Life of Pi" by Yann Martel is a captivating fiction story that explores the adventures of a young boy who survives a shipwreck. The narrative is filled with themes of survival, friendship, and curiosity, making it a compelling read for anyone who enjoys adventurous tales.  I liked "Life of Pi" a lot. The story revolves around a boy who survives a shipwreck at a very young age, and I found myself relating to him in many ways. His versatile skills and adaptable nature resonated with me, as I see similarities in my own diverse interests and professions. One aspect that stood out to me was the boy's curiosity about the Bharatanatyam dance and his understanding of its poses. This added a unique cultural layer to the story that I found fascinating. The evolving friendship between the boy and the tiger, Richard Parker, was another highlight, showcasing an extraordinary bond formed under extreme circumstances. The boy's ability to memorize the pi numbers was impressive ...
